Lily (18) and her mother Augusta (45) live in a cocoon, a butterfly house Augusta has constructed to protect them from the “brutality” of the outside world. When Lily’s cousin Oliver (27) unexpectedly arrives, exposing hidden family secrets, the impact of toxic love explodes in the space as the characters swing wildly between victim and persecutor in a desperate dance of longing. Through fragmented realities and fantasies and a world of past echoes, we watch as Lily matures inside the cocoon.
Where is the line between love and control? When does protection become dangerous? A meditation on emotional blindness and powerplay in familial relationships, “The Glass Threshold” explores the role that fear of abandonment and shame play in identity formation and social behaviour.

“The Glass Threshold” is a story of emergence and emotional growth. It explores the difficult rite of passage of the separation that must occur between a young adult and a parent if they are to enter into adulthood. It also has a universal relevance and resonance for anyone who has had to forgive the sins of the past, learn to let go, and embrace an independent future.
