About Us

Machination Theatre Ensemble is an evolving company of performers and collaborators working to create visual / physical theatre that is original in form, challenging in content and engaging to our audiences.

We are dedicated to the exploration, development and production of new theatrical forms combining physical theatre with contemporary practice, and relevant issues with a focus on ensemble work.

Our aim is to create new, dynamic, exciting performances; that are not didactic but genuinely engage, entertain and challenge our audience. This belief drives Machination’s work; impacting upon both the form and content of the work we create.

At the core of the Company is Megan Jones, Artistic and Company Director, heading a team of passionate and dedicated theatre artists. The Company Artists come from a background of varied disciplines and offer there skills towards the development of the Companies work. The Company also warmly welcomes the opportunity to work with Guest artists and members from a cross section of the community.

Overview

Founded in 2005, MTE evolved out of a performance project, as part of the course curriculum at the college where the core Company Artists were completing their studies. The project ("Fallen Sky"), led by Megan who at that time was a facilitator of the college, received such a strong positive response from its audiences that it was recommended to be submitted to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) for the VCE Drama playlist.

Successful in its submission "Fallen Sky" was remounted in 2006 and completed a two week season to sold out houses. The work again received such an overwhelming response to its original style and content from both audience and industry alike, with an offer of support for a touring season by Regional Arts Victoria, that  Megan and the group decided to try their hand at creating a second work together ("Destin"). After another successful season and with a growing fan base, the ensemble decided that it was somewhat inevitable that the Company should officially form, and so out of this Machination Theatre Ensemble was born!

Since then the Company has had a successful run, producing 4 new productions in the last 5 years, and has been selected by the VCAA 3 years consecutively.
